Meet Emmi Doerr

Student Therapist

Hi, I’m Emmi and I’m happy you’re here to explore counselling. I am excited to join Calming Tree as a student therapist completing my Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University.

As a student therapist, I am available to work with adults, couples, and families. My passions include supporting parents and families as they navigate the many transitions, challenges, and joys that come with caregiving and connection. My work experience has led me to supporting people with mental health, addictions, housing, and disability related concerns. I care deeply about providing support through all family stages including trying to conceive, pregnancy, and caregiving for aging family members.

My guiding perspective is rooted in setting clients up for success in reaching their goals, one step at a time. Whether you are navigating stress, relationship challenges, anxiety, trauma, disability‑related experiences, or life transitions, I am committed to creating a space where you feel supported and encouraged.

I am eager to continue developing my skills and tailor our work to your needs while honouring your lived experience, strengths, and values.

When not learning you can find me working on a knitting project, reading a book with a cup of tea, or outside enjoying nature with my miniature dachshund.

Prior to starting my Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laruier, I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Sexuality, Marriage and Family Studies specializing in Counselling at the University of Waterloo. I have also completed a Children’s Mental Health Certificate and a Social Service Work diploma from Conestoga College.
