Meet Julie Murray

Registered Social Worker

Hi, my name is Julie, and I’m a Registered Social Worker. Thank you for taking the time to read my bio. Finding the right therapist can feel a lot like finding a good pair of shoes—it needs to fit well, feel comfortable, and support you where you are. I hope this overview helps you get a sense of whether I might be the right fit for you.

I’ve worked in both community and hospital mental health and addictions settings, supporting people through complex mental health and substance use challenges. A significant part of my work has focused on treating PTSD, especially with first responders and others exposed to traumatic events through their work. I also served on an MHEART team, responding to mental health–related calls in the community alongside police officers. This experience shaped my approach to crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and supporting people during some of their most difficult moments.

My primary therapeutic approaches include Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma and PTSD, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) for sleep difficulties, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for anxiety, mood concerns, and stress-related challenges. I also integrate elements of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support emotional regulation, mindfulness, and values-based living. I tailor these approaches to each person’s goals and pace, focusing on practical skills that support meaningful and sustainable change.

When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me with my husband, our two daughters, and our very energetic Vizsla, who keep us on our toes and laughing (most days). I love thrifting as a creative outlet, a hobby that started during maternity leave and the pandemic and somehow survived longer than my puzzle phase and brief sourdough era. On a more serious note, finding and nurturing these outlets has become an important part of my self-care, which I value deeply in my roles as a mom, partner, and therapist.

I am a registered social worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I obtained my Master of Social Work (MSW) from Dalhousie University and completed my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at the University of Waterloo.

If it feels like a good fit, I’d love to connect and see how we might work together or answer any questions as you consider your next steps.
