Meet Tara Harvie

Registered Social Worker

Hello, I am Tara, and I am passionate about walking alongside clients through life’s challenges. I feel truly privileged to support their mental health, wellness, relationships and quality of life. I have worked with adults of all ages, families and couples in a variety of roles within community and hospital settings.

The focus in my counselling practice is to ensure clients feel safe, heard and accepted. I am a compassionate and approachable person. With my empathetic nature I support people experiencing a wide range of life challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, family/relationship conflict, trauma, and substance misuse. I am a proud ally of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

My primary goal is to build a meaningful and trusting therapeutic relationship while supporting clients to process their thoughts, feelings and behaviours to foster positive change in their lives. In my work, I draw from a diverse range and eclectic mix of therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and solution focused therapy (SFT), from a person-centered and trauma-informed perspective.

I am a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Wilfrid Laurier University. I am in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).

In my leisure time, I enjoy running, spending time in nature, travelling whenever I can, and enjoying quality time with my family and friends.
